Irina graduated from Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany, in 2010. She stayed at the university a little longer to complete her doctoral thesis in oncology; influence of MDR1, MRP1 and KIT on treatment outcomes and susceptibility to cancer. Following two years in general practice, she moved to the UK where she completed an internship in oncology at the VRCC (now Southfields) in 2014. Irina started a residency in small animal oncology at the University of Liverpool, becoming an ECVIM oncology diplomate with RCVS recognition in 2017. After working as Clinician at Davies Veterinary Specialists for two years, she joined the RVC as Lecturer in Oncology in 2019 where she became head of the service leading its new team development.
She founded the Oncology Camp in 2018, an intense training course for residents, interns and interested first-opinion practitioners. She presently chairs the ECVIM education committee and is a member-at-large on the ESVONC board allowing her to be involved in resident training and development of conference material.
