Dr.Jean Harris DVM, arrived at Greensborough, in February as a new graduate from Melbourne University.  It’s a long road of study, to eventually become a Doctor of Veterinary Science and be employed.

Jean was originally based on the Sunshine Coast with her family, where she attended secondary school. From there she went to Sydney University and completed a Bachelor of Animal & Veterinary Bioscience, graduating with first class honours.

Due to this success, she was then accepted into Melbourne Uni to complete the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.  It has been a long 8 years from graduating secondary to arriving at Greensborough Veterinary Hospital.

Jean already had extensive clinic experience as she had been Vet. Nursing in Brighton for a few years while studying, so this gave her good product knowledge along with experience working in a team.

In her spare time, Jean enjoyed surf lifesaving for 10-years, as a volunteer and competitor. This comes with the territory, living on the coast.  She has also volunteered at Lord Somers Camp.  This is a “Very Special Kids Camp” which is a weekend getaway for families with children with life-threatening illnesses.  It allows kids to participate in fun activities, while parents & caregivers get to have some down time.

Now living in inner-city Melbourne, Jean has adopted Reginald into her family.  He is an 18-month old, short-haired tabby that enjoys sunning himself in the window and, being an only child, lapping up the attention.

Jean comes to us with controlled enthusiasm for her new role. She is a great communicator that has allowed her to blend into our team with ease.  She listens to owners concerns with genuine interest and has the pet’s interest as her priority. She shows empathy when needed but also loves a cuddly puppy vaccination.  In a very short time, Jean has become an integral part of our team, showing her diversity and ability to cope during our current COVID-19 period.  Her practical skills and initiative make her a stand-out new graduate.  Jean is available on a full-time basis at our Greensborough Hospital.
