Joy-Maree was born in Tamworth but spent a lot of time on her grandparent’s sheep station in north-west NSW. From a very young age she was passionate about animals and loved being surrounded by them. She always wanted to work with animals, and this led her to complete various degrees in Zoology and Animal Studies before she finally realised her dream of studying veterinary science. She graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Queensland in 2008 and initially worked in mixed practice in the Lockyer Valley before returning to complete an internship at a specialist centre in Brisbane in 2010. Since then she has worked in several small animal clinics in Brisbane, managing several of them. She locumed at Clayfield Vet in 2019 and has now joined the team permanently.

Joy’s interests lie in small animal surgery but she also enjoys complex medical cases as well as the more routine vaccination consultations. She has performed surgery on many interesting pets including guinea pigs and chickens.

When not at work, she enjoys gardening, cooking, riding her bike, kayaking and collecting rubbish from our waterways, and browsing through op shops. She has a very fur friendly home which she shares with her partner and two step-children, their four dogs (Angus, Riley, Sunny and Bailey), four cats (Spooke, Studs, Delta and Bella).
